In the light of eternity

January 1, 2009

Being a mother is definitely not for the light hearted; it’s a hard working, heart wrenching, heaven rewarding job. Some days we rejoice and relish in our organised homes, well behaved children and cared for husbands…other days we do well to get out of our PJ ’s! Whatever state we’re in my children and I always start our day by thanking Jesus for the new day, rejoicing in the day He has made and thanking Him for his new mercies that morning; it helps us get an eternal perspective and take our eyes off (until it’s time to *do* the work!) the pile of laundry, the unwashed dishes and the fact that we can’t find matching socks! Every day I remind myself that I’m raising little history makers and social transformers; every time my children need correction or disciplining I remind them of who God has called them to be and the kind of man/woman that their Daddy and I desire them to be.

As we stop navel gazing and start Kingdom seeking we will see our children with His eternal perspective. You’re not just changing the 7th nappy of the day; you’re caring for a future father, you’re not just on your third feed in the middle of the night; you’re nurturing a future wife, you’re not just cleaning up again after a messy dinner; you’re loving future leaders.

I’m challenged to see my Children though God’s eyes, see past emotion, circumstance and season and embrace who He has called them to be…and my part is getting them there.

So next time you’re up at 3am nursing your little treasure; look at their face through tired, bleary eyes and catch a glimpse of an amazing work of God being shaped for His glory.

What a priveledge!

Let’s walk into 2009 with an amazing eternal perspective…

Leah

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.” Col 3:22
