Alive and Active

January 9, 2009
“For the word of God is alive and active.
Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
Heb 4:12 (NIV)

This week we started our project on the human body; we had great fun drawing round each other, bending and stretching our muscles and looking at our new great pop-up book. I started telling the children about bones, joints and explained a little about marrow being in the centre of our bones. After hearing this Joel pipes up ” that’s like our memory verse Mummy”. Before Christmas we memorised Hebrews 4:12; Joel loves to pretend he’s holding a sword and driving it into people when he recites it so it sprung to mind immediatley when we talked about ‘joints and marrow’.

As I began to consider the depth of marrow in the bone I was struck by the awesome power of God’s Word and that it’s effect is not skin deep. It’s not a surface, momentary work; it’s a deep, driving to the centre, non-returning work that shakes our very bones.

Yesterday I read this post which highlighted to me even more how we need to get back to basics; consider our foundations and not neglect the reading, memorising and consuming of the Word of God; daily in our lives.

And don’t for a minute let this Book of The Revelation be out of mind. Ponder and meditate on it day and night, making sure you practice everything written in it. Then you’ll get where you’re going; then you’ll succeed.
Joshua 1:1-3 (Message)

Let our cry be that we are consumed by His Word at ALL times; through all situations and seasons of life. Let our confession be that His Word is sufficient for ALL our needs and ALL our concerns. Throw away the manuals and self-help books, switch off the motivational speakers and TV chat-show psychologists and open the Word today!

Read it, speak it, live it. Pray it, talk it, sing it.
Teach it to your children.

These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
Deut 6: 6-7

Thankyou Leah, this has really blessed me! Let’s fill ourselves with the living word of God. I want my life, my decisions, my feelings and my plans all to stem from God’s word! His word holds everything together, and I chose to let His word be what holds my life together! ‘For the word of God is ALIVE and ACTIVE’! I want our LIFE and our ACTIONS be rooted in His words!! xxx
