“Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.
Ephesians 3:17

Last week we started our latest science project ‘how things grow’. Last week we took a general overview, planted lots of seeds and looked at parts of plants. This week we are focussing on the ‘roots’.

Today, after reading about roots we went to our favourite local place to learn outdoors and went on a ‘root walk’, the children had to spot roots and take photos to journal about and sketch at a later stage.

As I like to bring literacy into everything (why not!), we used our time to discuss ‘describing words’ and between them the children pulled together a fantastic poem about roots; enjoy!

‘Roots’ by Nyah and Joel

“Roots are smooth
Roots are life
They are under trees
Sometimes you can walk on them
Sometimes they are wobbly
Sometimes they are small
Sometimes they are tall
Sometimes you can see them around flowers
Sometimes they are hidden
Roots are beautiful because they are all alive
Sometimes they are funny shapes
Sometimes they can climb
Roots are everywhere
Roots are important”
