Signs of Spring in the Winter

January 25, 2012

I didn’t quite make my usual early wake up call this morning; after an eventful (very) late night with my 3-year-old son (tummy ache) and my 11 month old daughter (was woken up by son with tummy ache and wanted to party!), it was probably around 3am before I crawled into bed with Micah snuggled up next to me to be then ripped back out of my bed an hour later to our little Sienna-Raine who fancied a mama snack!

But I’m here (amazing grace how sweet the sound), I’m ready for the day, the children are still asleep and the morning sun is yet to rear her head.

As I was stood sleepily in my kitchen waiting for the kettle to boil I could hear a bird chirping away happily outside, so instead of quietly putting on some worship music, which is my usual morning ritual, I carefully opened our kitchen window to hear that forgotten sound of spring; I made a pot of tea, I ironed my hardworking husbands work clothes, I smiled.

My heart is yearning for spring.

A few days ago Dave and I were stood clearing away things in our back yard after the building work had been completed, he scanned our happy homestead and asked “are you going to dig up those dead trees and throw them away”!  Ok so he’s not quite Alan Titchmash but I thought his fingers might have a slight tinge of green on them, but evidently not so!  I laughed and shrieked at the same time declaring (rather dramatically and in defence of the trees):

“Dave, they’re not dead, they’re sleeping, God does some of His best, unseen work in the winter, the trees are preparing for new growth, they might look brown and shrivelled but we can’t give up on them now!”

I walked over to my willow tree and pointed out the tiny green buds just peeping  out enough to convince us not to rip him up from the ground and I smiled.

My heart is yearning for spring

After the children and I had tidied up after our day yesterday I gazed up at the clock and it read 4 o’clock, I looked out of the window and it was still light – I yelled “kids, it’s 4 o’clock and it’s still light”, they smiled.

My heart is yearning for spring

Are you feeling dry, unnoticed, insignificant and ‘done’?

It’s time precious mother, daughter of God, to look for signs of spring in your life!  God is ALWAYS at work; He does some of His finest, unseen work in the dark of winter – He’s preparing you for growth, He’s preparing you for a season of fruitfulness, a time to be displayed for His glory, a time to flourish in His garden.

Search for the ‘buds’, listen out for the bird song – spring is in the air!

“Yes, I am the vine, you are the branches.  Those who remain in me, and I in them will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”

John 15:5

Remain in Him and look for signs of Spring

Blessings

Leah
