No secrets here!

“What we have heard and known, what our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.“ Psalm 78:2-3

Children love stories; not just fairy tales with pictures but they love real life stories from our lives.  Our children love sitting round the meal table and hearing stories of when Dave and I were ‘their age’, they are happy to hear the same memories and embarrassing moments again and again until we get tired of our own voices!

Jesus told stories all time; the amazing parables that gathered hoards of listeners taught valuable lessons on life, His Kingdom and building our lives on Him, I can just imagine the disciples asking to hear ‘the one which made the Pharisees squirm’ again!

It’s so important to converse with our children; talk about the amazing things of God, talk about what you’re enjoying in His word, what He’s speaking to you about and even the challenges you’re facing.

I had a heart warming moment last Sunday morning when I was chatting with a few of the children at church about the Holy Spirit; one 6 year old exclaimed ‘I know all about the Holy Spirit, He’s like an Eagle that we can make leave if we’re angry!’ – he was retelling a story I had preached about the previous week; which was actually about a dove (not an eagle!) but his Mum had taken the time to ‘chat’ to her 6 year old boy about the sermon!

Our friends son recently decided to ask His Mum about the Holy Spirit and what speaking in tongues was; his Mum took the time to chat and share with him about the Holy Spirit and how because he follows Jesus he could be filled and have the gift of tongues too; a short time later he came back into the room after praying and asking God and he was speaking in tongues!!

“Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up” Deut 6:7

It’s in our every day coming and going; our living and our loving that we share the life of Jesus with our children; don’t keep it a secret, your story is their story!

Be intentional everyday to ‘leak’ the life of God into your children – try telling your story today; they’ll love it!

Be blessed and encouraged in raising your precious children – you’re doing a great job!

One of the blessings of hosting a CM carnival is that people like you leave a comment and I get to come on over and visit! What a great blog you have here! I plan to sit down with a cup of coffee – after our school morning and indulge in a bit of ‘back reading’ ;o)
    Have a great day!
