A Mother’s Morning
The gift of a day breathes life every morning
The stretching of limbs and the sound of yawning
The click of the kettle brings hope to my mug
A bunk bed descent landing with a thud
The birds are singing their morning song
His mercies are new and my hope is strong
The washing machine is whirring
Pancake batter stirring
Or cereal pouring
While big kids are still snoring
Kissing hubby out of the door
Picking yesterdays Lego off the floor
Table gathering – feeling tribal
Prayer, discussion and the opening of the Bible
Coffee is brewing
My ‘to do’ list is stewing
Children struggling
Helped by snuggling
Eyes rubbing
Teeth scrubbing
Cute face kisses
Morning wishes
In the hustle and the drama
I hear those sweet words ‘Mama’
Sometimes it takes my breath away
